What is The Avin Project?
Acclaimed novelist David Maine (The Preservationist, Fallen) has been called “an original, beguiling writer” by The New York Times, and his books have been praised by everyone from People and Entertainment Weekly to O, the Oprah Magazine.
Dave’s latest project is a return to his fantasy roots—the kind of books he grew up loving as a teenager—the kind of books that ignited his love of reading and writing, and led him to a lifelong career as a successful writer!
Now Dave wants to pass along what he’s learned to the next generation, because he knows that writing and reading will survive only if teens learn to love it the way he did. So he is offering his epic fantasy adventure The Gamble of the Godless in electronic format free of charge to teachers (including home schools) nationwide.
The Gamble of the Godless follows the adventures of a young man named Avin as he explores an exciting world full of unexpected creatures and unpredictable dangers. More than that, Dave’s team of educational consultants has worked to ensure that, along with the book, students will receive a carefully planned set of study materials that address the Common Core State Standards that will maximize their comprehension, vocabulary skills and engagement with the story.
Through a combination of an engaging story, developmentally appropriate curriculum and unprecedented access to the author through classroom visits students will have a chance to embark on a challenging, exciting and unique adventure.
Why is The Avin Project aligned with Common Core State Standards?
Today's teacher is on the cusp of another sea change in education. With the introduction of the widely adopted Common Core State Standards (CCSS), teachers must begin the search for the best aligned curriculum. We hope that our accompanying curriculum guide aligned to CCSS's College and Career Readiness (CCR) Anchor Standards will help teachers have an easier transition into this new era.
We feel the CCSS identify key standards that address the appropriate developmental steps to becoming a good writer and a better reader. Our curriculum incorporates a broad spectrum of Common Core standards across all of the CCR areas of Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and Language. Combined with a engaging story and unprecedented access to the author himself, students are sure to walk away having had both a fun and educational experience.
Feel free to download the guide and see if this project is a good match for your school and students.
